Is the future of FANE’s music reviews Substack?

Very possibly, yes! But, that depends on you…

Hi there,

I’ve been trying to figure out a better way to disseminate art/artists faster to those who want more “Qwierdo Shit” in their lives. We’re not abandoning the magazine format, but I think we’re going to be moving reviews from the magazine issues and putting them into our new Substack. For those unaware, Substack is a platform for creatives to grow and interact with their reader-base through Email/Newsletter style communication.

Our magazine issues to date have all presented music reviews for releases that musicians had already moved on from. This is a tricky thing with artists who create in the greater noise/experimental fields. Some of these artists put out 10 or more pieces a year, and by the time I’m publicly taking about their first piece, they’re focusing on their fifth. I think the solution here just might be a weekly/bi-weekly email where I report on some of the interesting music I’ve come across that can’t wait 3 months or more for a magazine issue to get sorted.

We’ll be doing this completely free, of course. FANE shouldn’t ever be paywalled. We want everyone to experience FANE without having to worry about being able to afford it. That said, there are subscription options (including being one of The ProFANE/Founders), but they exist solely for those who want to help keep FANE going with a monetary gift. There will be no difference in offered content.

Social Media has become an utterly corrupted mess, and while FANE continues to play the game, we’re seeing the value of going back to simple email lists where you get the info direct and without the psychological warfare of Web 3.0. It’ll be you and us. No doomscrolling through misery. No juggling multiple platforms. Just cool stuff from interesting creators sent to your email for you to enjoy.

Whaddaya think? Sound like something you might want to be a part of? Then Subscribe to us on Substack (free, paid… whatever works for you) so we can see that there’s an interest.

Hugs & kisses!
